Storyboards
Storyboards are used to plan out scenes where action happens over a period of time. Examples include video shoots, animations and video game cutscenes.
The key to getting storyboards right is to add the correct technical elements.
Elements of a storyboard
- Images
- A drawing showing a representation of what is happening in the film
- Location
- An explanation of where the action is happening
- Scene numbers
- Number the scenes 1, 2, 3 etc
- Put the number in the top-left of each box
- Duration
- How long each shot lasts for
- e.g. 5 seconds, 3 seconds
- Camera shots
- e.g. close up, wide shot
- Camera movements
- a.g. pan, tilt
- Sound
- Diegetic sound like voices, speech, sound effects
- Non-diegetic sound like background music
- Lighting
- e.g. 3-point lighting, back lighting

In the exam, you should be consistent in your use of technical features. i.e. make sure you have used all of the technical features in every box.
You will need to have at least four examples of technical features consistently applied to get the highest mark band.
The exam will also likely ask you to add annotations to explain how the script will help a particular worker. Make sure you annotate in detail.
