Scripts
Scripts are used to plan out scenes that involve characters and dialogue.
Scripts are created using a set format that is widely understood across the industry. It is important to know, understand and use this format so that the people working with you are not confused.
Elements of a script
- Slugline
- Either INT or EXT depending on inside or outside
- The location
- The rough time of day
- Action
- A description of what is happening in the scene
- Should be written in the present tense
- The first time a character is mentioned their name goes in CAPITALS
- Camera shots
- e.g. close up, wide shot – written on the left
- Character name for dialogue
- In capitals and indented
- The dialogue
- The exact words that the character says
- Stage directions
- In brackets underneath the character name
- Displays any information about how the character is saying their lines
