2.3 Audience Segmentation Categories

These are the ways audiences can be defined.

Age

audience segmentation category - age
Usually an age range e.g. 18-25 or it could be "younger people", "older people" etc.

Gender

audience segmentation category - gender
Male, female or both.

Occupation

audience segmentation category - occupation
The product could target particular occupations e.g. doctors. Or it could target a type of occupation e.g. professionals, office workers, tradespeople etc.

Income

audience segmentation category - incomelevels
The amount of money people make from their work. Could be high earners, low earners, middle earners, or it might be a salary range e.g. £50k-£100k.

Education

audience segmentation category - education
How educated the audience is e.g. high school educated, college educated, university educated.

Location

audience segmentation category - location
Where the audience is. It might be a country e.g. the UK, or it could be a region, e.g. the north or a city e.g. Manchester.

Interests

audience segmentation category - interests
What sort of things the audience likes to do e.g. enjoy Asian food, watch sports, play cards.

Lifestyle

audience segmentation category - lifestyle
How the audience likes to lead their lives e.g. health and fitness, being outdoors, busy careers, etc.
