2.1a The Purpose of Media Products
These are the only purposes that media products can have. Don't write anything else in the exam!
Advertise
To advertise or promote a physical product, service, organisation or idea.
e.g. billboard, radio advert, web banner, film poster flyer, magazine or newspaper advert
Educate
To teach or provide instructions for someone to learn something.
e.g. textbook, leaflet, webinar, website, podcast, instruction manual, "how to" guide, app, documentary
Entertain
To provoke an emotional response, for enjoyment or provide escapism from daily life
e.g. comic, magazine, TV programme, film, radio programme, social media post, podcast, computer game, music video
Inform
To give brief instructions or information without going into depth
e.g. map, flyer, poster, booklet, website, social media post, instructional video, sign, digital report, news programme
Influence
To have a persuasive effect on an audience to make a choice, or to change or inform their view
e.g. social media post, music video, charity animation, podcast, party political broadcast
